What are Foamex Signs
Foamex is a lightweight, rigid board made from expanded PVC foam, with a smooth, matt white surface that takes print beautifully. You may also see it called foam board, PVC foam board, or foamex board. It's easy to cut, easy to fix, and light enough to hang almost anywhere, which is why it's one of the most popular sign materials in the UK.
A Foamex sign is simply a Foamex board with your artwork printed directly onto it, cut to the size and shape you need. They suit shop signs, notices, directional signs, estate agent boards, event signage, display boards, hoardings, and presentation boards. (CONFIRM: Foamex description and thicknesses)
Why Choose Foamex Signs?
Sharp, vibrant print: The smooth, matt surface holds colour and fine detail well, so logos, photos, and small text print crisply.
Light and easy to fit: Foamex is a fraction of the weight of metal or acrylic, so it's quick to hang, easy to mount, and gentle on walls, fences, and frames.
Good value for the finish: A professional, rigid sign without the cost of aluminium or acrylic. Ideal for short- to medium-term signage and quick-turnaround jobs.
Water-resistant and practical: Foamex doesn't warp or soak up water like card or MDF, so it works well indoors and in sheltered or short-term outdoor spots. (CONFIRM: weather-resistance claims and expected outdoor lifespan)
Any size, any shape: From A5 to A0 and beyond, and cut to size or to shape. (CONFIRM: maximum size and custom shapes)
Quick turnaround: Foamex prints and cuts fast, so it's perfect when time is tight. (CONFIRM: same-day or next-day availability and cut-off times)
Our Foamex Sign Options
1. Thickness: 3mm, 5mm and 10mm
Thickness changes how a sign feels and where it works best: (CONFIRM: thicknesses you stock)
3mm Foamex: Lightweight and economical, ideal for smaller signs, notices, and indoor displays.
5mm Foamex: The all-rounder, rigid enough for most signs, shop boards, and outdoor use in sheltered spots.
10mm Foamex: Extra stiff and substantial, for large boards, hoardings, and signs that need to stay flat.
2. Sizes: A5 to A0 and Large Format
Standard sizes are popular because they're easy to fit and frame:
A5, A4, A3: Notices, door signs, price, and menu boards.
A2, A1: Shop signs, directional boards, estate agent boards, event displays.
A0 and large format: Hoardings, large displays, big advertising boards.
Or tell us the exact size you need and we'll cut it to measure. (CONFIRM: standard sizes and cut-to-size availability)
3. Single-Sided & Double-Sided Foamex Boards
One side for your message, or both for boards seen from either direction. (CONFIRM: double-sided foamex printing offered)
4. Foamex Signs for Outdoor Use
Foamex works outdoors for short- to medium-term use, especially in sheltered spots. For long-term outdoor signs in exposed locations, consider Dibond or aluminium instead. See our rigid sheet printing and non-illuminated signs pages.
5. Foamex Display & Presentation Boards
Mounted prints, exhibition boards, photo displays, and presentation boards. Light to carry, crisp to look at. (CONFIRM: mounting and display options)
6. Foamex Hoarding & Large Format Boards

Tips for a Foamex Sign That Looks Great
Send high-resolution artwork: Vector files (PDF, AI, EPS) give the sharpest print at any size.
Keep text big and bold: If someone can't read it from the distance they'll see it at, it's too small.
Use high contrast: Dark on light or light on dark reads best.
Pick the right thickness: Go thicker for bigger boards, and for signs that need to stay flat.
Think about fixings: Screws, adhesive, pads, or cable ties each suit different surfaces. We'll advise. (CONFIRM: drilling and fixings offered)
Protect it outdoors: Fix it securely and keep Foamex out of constant strong sun and heavy wind for the best life.

Foamex Signs FAQs
Can't see your question? Call the workshop or send us a WhatsApp.
What is Foamex?
Foamex is a lightweight, rigid board made from expanded PVC foam, with a smooth matt surface that prints beautifully. It's also called foam board, PVC foam board or foamex board, and it's a popular, good-value material for signs, notices and display boards.
Is Foamex waterproof?
Foamex is water-resistant and doesn't warp or soak up water like card or MDF, so it copes well with damp and rain in sheltered or short-term outdoor use. It isn't designed for long-term use in exposed locations.
Can Foamex signs be used outdoors?
Yes, for short- to medium-term use, especially in sheltered spots. For long-term signs in exposed locations, Dibond or aluminium is a better choice. We'll recommend the right material for your site.
What thickness should I choose?
3mm suits smaller signs and indoor displays. 5mm is the all-rounder for most signs. 10mm suits large boards and hoardings that need to stay flat. We'll help you choose.
What sizes can you print?
From A5 notices to A0 boards and large format. Tell us your dimensions and we'll confirm what's possible and the price.
Can you cut Foamex to a custom size or shape?
Yes. We cut Foamex to the exact size you need, and can advise on custom shapes.
What is the difference between Foamex and foam core board?
Foamex is a rigid PVC foam board that's water-resistant and suits signs. Foam core board has a paper surface over foam and is better for indoor displays, because it's less durable. We print on Foamex for signs that need to last.
What file format should I send?
PDF is best, and vector files give the sharpest results at large sizes. We also accept AI, EPS, JPG and PNG. We check every file for free and tell you straight away if anything needs fixing.
How fast can I get my Foamex sign?
We give you a clear cut-off time and an honest ready by time before you order. Approve your artwork before the cut-off and we'll confirm when it will be ready.
How much do Foamex signs cost?
Price depends on size, thickness and quantity. Because every sign is made to order, we quote each one clearly. Send your dimensions and we'll give you a price with no obligation.
Where can I collect my sign?
From our workshop in High Wycombe. We're open 08:00–17:00.
