Sign Boards: Outdoor, Shop and Business Signage Boards Made Fast in High Wycombe
Most people decide whether to walk into a business before they've reached the door. They glance up, read the sign board, and make their mind up in a couple of seconds. A tired, faded or hard-to-read sign quietly tells them to keep walking. A sharp one invites them in.
That's the job of a good sign board. Whether it's a fascia board above your shopfront, an outdoor sign board on the wall by your entrance, an A-board on the pavement or an advertising board for a launch, it works for you every hour you're open, and every hour you're not.
We design, print and make custom sign boards for shops, offices and businesses across the UK in our own High Wycombe workshop. Send your artwork, or just your logo and wording, and we check it for free. You get a proof to approve and an honest ready-by time before anything is printed.

What Are SignBoards?
A sign board is simply a flat, rigid panel carrying your name, logo or message, made to be seen and read from a distance. It's the most common form of business signage in the UK, and you'll find signage boards everywhere: above shop windows, beside office entrances, on railings, at the edge of car parks and propped up on the pavement outside cafes.
What separates a good signage board from a poor one is the material underneath and the quality of the print on top. We make sign boards from tough, weather-resistant materials such as aluminium composite (Dibond), Foamex, Correx and acrylic, printed in full colour or finished with cut vinyl or raised 3D lettering. That means we can build the right board sign for the job, whether it needs to last for ten years outdoors or two weeks in a shop window. (CONFIRM: materials and finishing methods offered for sign boards)
Sign boards fall into two broad jobs. Some tell people who you are: shop signs, fascia boards and company sign boards. Others tell people what you're offering: advertising boards, advert signs, sale signs and promotional boards. Most businesses need both, and we make both.
Our SignBoard Options
1. Shop Signs and Fascia SignBoards
The signboard on a shopfront is the single most important piece of signage most retailers own. It's what people spot from the end of the street and what they search for when they're trying to find you. We make printed fascia boards and shop sign boards to fit your fascia exactly, in your colours and your fonts, with the option to add raised 3D letters or lighting for extra presence. For something bolder, see our Fascia Signs and 3D Shop Signage.
2. Outdoor SignBoards for Walls, Railings and Entrances
Not every business has a fascia. If your entrance is down a side street, on an industrial estate or behind a car park, an outdoor sign board fixed to a wall, gate or railing shows people they're in the right place. These outdoor signage boards are ideal for entrance signs, directional signs, opening hours, car park signs and boundary boards.
3. A-Boards and Pavement Signs
A-boards outside shops are one of the cheapest, most effective ways to stop passing trade. Put a strong offer, today's specials or simply "We're open" at eye level and people notice. We print replacement A-board inserts and supply complete pavement sign boards, so you can swap the message as often as you like. (CONFIRM: whether you supply A-board frames or print inserts only)
4. Advertising Boards and Advert Signs
When you need to promote rather than just identify, advertising boards do the heavy lifting. We print advertisement boards for launches, new menus, events, recruitment, property and seasonal campaigns. Large-format advert signs work brilliantly on building walls, fences and forecourts, and smaller ad signs are perfect for windows, counters and noticeboards.
5. Business and Company SignBoards
A company sign board at reception or by the front door makes a business look established. We make business sign boards for offices, clinics, workshops, schools and industrial units, from simple printed name plates to premium acrylic or brushed aluminium boards with standoff fixings. See Acrylic Signs for reception-ready finishes.
6. Illuminated SignBoards
If you trade after dark, a lit sign board keeps working when the lights go down. We can add LED illumination to fascia boards and lettering for shops, takeaways and restaurants. Take a look at our Illuminated Signs and 3D Illuminated Signs.
7. Sale Signs, Promotional Boards and Temporary Signage
Sale signs for shops, "coming soon" boards, "advertise here" signs and short-run promotional signage don't need to last for years. Lightweight Correx and Foamex boards are quick to print and kind to your budget, so you can change your message with every campaign. For a soft sign or a banner outside a shop, see our PVC Banners.
SignBoard Materials Compared
The right material depends on where your sign board is going and how long it needs to last. Here's a quick guide.
Feature | Dibond | Foamex | Correx | Acrylic |
Look and feel | Premium, rigid, metallic option | Smooth, light, professional | Fluted, lightweight, practical | Glossy, high-end |
Best location | Outdoors, long term | Indoors or sheltered outdoors | Outdoors, temporary | Indoors, receptions |
Weather resistance | Excellent | Good in sheltered spots | Good, short term | Good in sheltered spots |
Budget | Higher | Lower to mid | Lowest | Higher |
Best for | Shop fascias, outdoor business signs | Shop notices, indoor advertising boards | Sale signs, A-board inserts, site boards | Company sign boards, office signs |
Not sure? Tell us where the sign is going and how long it needs to last. We'll recommend the right board, even if it's the simpler or cheaper one. Read more about Dibond Signs, Foamex Signs and Correx Signs.
Sizes, Colours and Finishes
Small sign boards (A5 to A3): Door signs, name plates, opening hours and window notices.
Medium sign boards (A2 to A0): Entrance signs, A-board inserts, wall-mounted advertising boards and directional signs.
Large format and fascia boards: Shop signs, building advertising signs, hoardings and full-width fascias, cut to your measurements.
Any colour scheme works, from bright high-street branding to a sleek black shop sign with white or gold lettering. Popular finishes include white, black, brushed aluminium and gloss or matt laminate.
Mounting and Fixing Options
How your sign board is fitted changes how it looks and how long it stays put. Options include screw fixing, standoffs for a modern floating look, rails and frames for fascias, cable ties or brackets for railings, and adhesive pads for smooth indoor walls. Tell us the surface and we'll advise on the best fixing.
Where SignBoards Work Best
Shopfronts and high streets: Fascia boards, projecting signs and window signs that turn a shop sign outside into a reason to step in.
Pavements and forecourts: A-boards outside shops, cafes, salons and pubs.
Office entrances and receptions: Company sign boards and name plates.
Industrial units and business parks: Outdoor sign boards, entrance signs and car park signs.
Building sites and developments: Hoarding boards and advertising boards.
Events, markets and pop-ups: Lightweight sign boards and banners that go up fast.
Department stores and larger retailers: Department store signs, wayfinding and in-store advertising signage.
Do You Need Planning Permission for Advertising Signs?
Sometimes, yes. In England, outdoor advertising signs are covered by the advertisement regulations, and many everyday business signs have what's called deemed consent, so you don't need to apply. Others, especially larger signs, illuminated signs, signs above a certain height, or anything on a listed building or in a conservation area, may need advertisement consent from your local council.
A-boards and other signs on the public pavement are a separate matter, as many councils require a licence or have rules about where they can stand. If you're unsure, check with your local planning authority before you order. We're happy to talk it through, and we can supply drawings and specifications to help with an application.
This is general guidance, not legal advice, and rules differ across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Tips for a SignBoard That Brings Customers In
Say less, say it bigger: Your business name and one clear message beat a crowded board every time. If people can't read it from across the road, it's too small.
Use strong contrast: Dark on light or light on dark reads best outdoors. A black shop sign with white or gold letters is a classic for good reason.
Put your name where people look: Fascia boards above eye level for passing traffic, A-boards at eye level for people on foot.
Make your advert signs specific: "20% off all coffees today" sells harder than "Great coffee here". The best advertising signage gives people a reason to act now.
Match your sign to your brand: Use the same colours, fonts and logo across your shop signs, window graphics and banners so people recognise you instantly.
Send vector artwork if you can: PDF, AI and EPS files stay sharp at any size, which matters on large outdoor signage boards.
Check local rules first: Large, illuminated or pavement signs may need consent or a licence from your council.

Why choose Urgent Sign
Made for outdoor life
Our outdoor sign boards are built to cope with British weather: rain, sun, wind and frost. They won't rot or warp like painted timber, so your sign still looks sharp months and years down the line. (CONFIRM: outdoor lifespan claims per material)
Sharp, full-colour print
Logos, photographs and fine detail are printed crisp and bright, so your sign board reads clearly from across the street. (CONFIRM: print method and any UV or fade-resistance claims)
Any size, any shape
From small door and name plates to full-width fascia boards, we cut your sign board to the exact size you need, and shape it if your design calls for it.

Sign Boards FAQs
Can't see your question? Call the workshop or send us a WhatsApp.
What is a sign board?
A sign board is a flat, rigid panel printed or lettered with your business name, logo or message. Sign boards are used for shop signs, outdoor business signs, advertising boards, directional signs and notices, indoors and out.
What is the best material for an outdoor sign board?
For long-term outdoor use, Dibond (aluminium composite) is usually the best choice, as it stays flat and copes with all weathers. Correx is ideal for short-term outdoor signs, and Foamex suits sheltered spots. Tell us where it's going and we'll recommend the right one.
How long do outdoor sign boards last?
It depends on the material, location and fixing. A Dibond sign board can last many years outdoors, while Correx is designed for weeks or months.
Can you make a sign board for my shopfront?
Yes. We make signboards for shop fronts cut to your fascia size, printed in your branding, with options for raised 3D letters and illumination. Send us a photo and rough measurements and we'll advise.
What's the difference between a sign board and an advertising board?
A sign board usually identifies your business, like a shop sign or company sign board. An advertising board promotes something specific, such as an offer, event or new product. We make both, often from the same materials.
Do you make A-boards for outside shops?
Yes. A-boards outside shops are a great way to catch passing trade. We print A-board inserts you can swap whenever your offer changes.
Do I need planning permission for my sign board?
Many business signs are allowed without applying, but larger, illuminated or high-mounted signs, and signs on listed buildings or in conservation areas, may need advertisement consent. Pavement A-boards may need a council licence. Check with your local council if you're unsure.
Can sign boards be printed in full colour?
Yes. We print full-colour artwork, logos and photographs directly onto the board for a sharp, vibrant finish.
How much do sign boards cost?
Price depends on size, material, finish, quantity and fixings. Every sign board is made to order, so we quote each one clearly. Send your details and we'll give you a price with no obligation.
Do you sell advertising signs for sale off the shelf?
We focus on custom signs made to order, so every advertising sign carries your own message and branding. Common jobs like sale signs, "to let" boards and "advertise here" signs are quick to turn around.
Can you make a sign board instead of an advertising screen for my shop window?
We don't supply digital screens, but a printed or illuminated sign board, window graphic or acrylic display is often a lower-cost, lower-maintenance way to advertise in your shop window.
What file format should I send?
PDF is best, and vector files give the sharpest results at large sizes. We also accept AI, EPS, JPG and PNG. We check every file for free and tell you straight away if anything needs fixing.
How fast can I get my sign board?
We give you an honest ready-by time before you order. Approve your artwork quickly and we'll confirm exactly when it will be ready.
